Thinking through drawing
Tuesday 10 November 2015    14:00-17:00

Are you struggling to communicate your ideas visually? Would you like to be able to use drawing and sketching to facilitate ideas-generation and help you plan out your work? Do you feel that a lack of drawing confidence might be restricting you creatively? In this three-hour workshop we will revisit drawing skills and consider what it means to ‘see skilfully’. We will look at various drawing methodologies to consider how drawing can help to think through conceptual ideas, to work through a brief, and to expand and support thinking and creative practice

Thinking through critical thinking
Thursday 12 November 2015   13:00-15:00

What is the value and purpose of critical thinking? In this two-hour session you will work with our expert facilitator and students from across UAL to explore and question the place of critical thinking in your work, and see how it relates to the UAL assessment criteria and to your personal development.

Exploring ‘stuckness’
Friday 13 November 2015        10:30-13:30

Stuck on hard topics? Not sure what to do next? In this Lego Serious Play (LSP) workshop, we explore why stuckness happens, when and how it has happened to you, and what to do when meeting these challenges in the future, in order to help you to manage stuckness skillfully.

Researching skilfully through archives and objects
Wednesday 18 November 2015             10:30-13:30

This is a practical workshop where you will have an opportunity to explore real archive material through a series of short activities. Through a series of short activities you will learn how to handle objects, read objects and interrogate archive material. At each stage we will be encouraging you to examine your habits and decision-making processes when enquiring and researching.

Walking through your project
Friday 20 November 2015        14:00-17:00

Escaping the confines of your workspace and consciously engaging with your environment can show you a route through creative block or reveal bold new directions for your work. This workshop will ensure that you use that time to its greatest effect.

At ease with assessed presentations
Wednesday 25 November 2015            13:30-16:5

A joint event developed by UAL Counselling and Mental Health team and UAL-wide Academic Support Events

This is an informal and collaborative session where you will come together with other students in order to support each other, learn more about how to feel well prepared for presentations, how to manage nerves and how to maximise your confidence in presentation situations.

Friday Write…
Friday 27 November 2015        13:00-15:00

Research can be a solitary business. Friday Write provides a forum in which you can meet other PhD and MPhil students to share experiences and ideas related to your studies, and build a network that can support you through your research.
