Visual Ode to Black Girl Joy: Summer in South London

This summer, South London transforms into a vibrant stage for Summer in South London, a striking visual storytelling project that honours the freedom, creativity, and resilience of Black girls. Filmed across iconic neighbourhoods including Peckham, Brixton, Camberwell, Walworth, and Prince of Peckham, the series reimagines the city as a space of joy, softness, and sisterhood.

Melding authentic photography, hand-drawn collage artistry, and street-style energy, Summer in South London asserts itself as a powerful cultural statement. It archives movement, mood, and magic — a luminous tribute to Black girls, the enduring heartbeat of the city.

Black girl joy is revolutionary! This project transcends beauty — it demands presence, power, and the right to be seen fully, in colour and complexity.

— Natalie Worgs, Creative Director and Community Storyteller

The collection highlights eight pivotal moments captured in renowned locations: the rhythmic pulse of Rye Lane in Peckham, Brixton’s cultural heartbeat, Camberwell’s creative softness, and the nocturnal glow of Prince of Peckham. Each scene celebrates Black girls laughing, styling, uplifting one another, and simply existing with unapologetic pride.

More than a visual series, Summer in South London is a zine in progress, a digital campaign, and a cultural intervention. Its signature palette—hot pink, rich yellow, and matte black—gives the project a bold visual identity. Real Black girls, real places, real moments—unfiltered and unbothered.
