Rachel Rymar studies MA Fashion Futures at London College of Fashion. Rachel is looking for people who would kindly donate old fabric/clothing for her MA Fashion Futures project.
Open Call for Fabric Donations
I am doing a speculative design project in my MA Fashion Futures course and I would like to enlist the help of the post-grad community at UAL. I am creating a garment that will be made up of material from people working in various fields.
The goal is to create a product that is representative of the many different areas of knowledge that should be required in the industrial design of a garment.
I'm hoping to gather fabric piece(s) of clothing/material donated from people who work in the following fields:
- Ecology
- Environmental Science
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Anthropology
- Architecture
- Material experts
- Waste/recycling industry
If you, or anyone you know, know someone who works in the above areas or in a related field and could kindly help in donating a piece of clothing or material, please get in touch!
I'm hoping to gather any kind of material that you're willing to part with: it can be something that's already heading to a charity shop, something that is beyond repair or is simply no longer functional or wearable.
Photographer collaboration opportunity
And finally, if there are any photography postgrads who would like to help me document the final product, that would also be hugely helpful.
Fashion should not be created in a vacuum. We need to think about the whole life cycle of a product before it is designed, the effects of its use, and finally how it is disposed of.
Hopefully, with your help, I can create a garment that engages and inspires others to think beyond the status quo.
Thank you for your help!
Best,
Rachel Rymar r.rymar0620211@arts.ac.uk
