Congratulations to London College of Fashion MA Fashion Futures student Natasha Mays who has been selected as a participating designer for the WM & Slow Factory Foundation’s Design Challenge.

The WM Design Challenge aims to create design solutions for fashion products, materials or systems that embrace regenerative practices. After a highly competitive application process, six participants have been chosen to take part in the seven-month project that challenges them to experiment with and provide tangible solutions for disassembly and reuse of products through de-manufacturing, up-cycling materials, and other processes.

The six successful participants are located across the globe and include multi-disciplinary designers - with Natasha selected for her work in highlighting how social and cultural issues affect and are embedded within the fashion industry.

Natasha’s research for her MA Fashion Futures course at London College of Fashion looks at sustainability as a privilege and how race, education and affluence affect our social and economic freedom to make sustainable choices.

The Challenge will see Natasha and her fellow participants consider and incorporate design solutions based on the ‘End of Life’ stage of a product, aiming to create a climate positive circular garment and/or system innovation.

Participants will each receive $1,000 to help develop their functional design solutions, alongside support from an advisory board of 16 industry experts including journalist/filmmaker Sophia Li, Circular Economy Strategist Faith Legendre and patternmaker/activist Makayla Wray.

The program will culminate in a virtual showcase at the 2022 WM Sustainability Forum.

Good luck to Natasha and all the participants!
