by Susanna Cordner, Senior Research Fellow, LCF Collections and Archives
Happening on the last Wednesday of every month* the Object Reading Group being held with London College Fashion’s Collections and Archives and hosted by Susanna Cordner, Senior Research Fellow.
Participants attending the discussion group will be asked to ‘read’ and discuss a selection of objects from the London College Fashion Collections and Archives. The aim is to take an interdisciplinary approach to the sessions and discussions, and to encourage students, staff and researchers to apply their different expertise and knowledge bases (whether practical or theoretical) to ‘reading’ the selected objects.
As well as highlighting the variety of materials in the archive, the events will promote the importance of object based learning in all disciplines, and hopefully highlight some of the different ways participants will engage with objects depending on their own expertise.
Once the series has been established, it is hoped that the programme will be diversified by holding collaborative sessions with other UAL archives and special collections, and/or by inviting participants from the fashion industry to bring in objects for the group to ‘read’.
This event series is a great way to be introduced to the archives and collections held at London College of Fashion and for students and staff to meet others from different disciplines and Colleges. Please note that if you cannot commit to attending the whole series then you are still very welcome to just come along to one or two!
