Open Call for the Dye Garden Community project

This is an Open Call for postgraduate students to be involved in a new initiative at Stave Hill Ecological Park: a nature reserve, educational facility and research centre based in Rotherhithe, South London.

This project will run between March and July 2022

Researchers from The Centre for Circular Design will using bio-based materials, methods, and approaches developed at the EU H2020 HEREWEAR project, to run workshops with other students and researchers involved in the project.

Workshops will be run at the site, working in collaboration with AO Textiles, a design consultancy that specialises in natural dye techniques.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for UAL postgraduate students whose practice or interests resonate with community, sustainability, environmental issues, material futures or even story telling/documentation to be part of this core group. If you are interested to find out more? Get in touch with Claudia Catzelis: c.catzeflis@chelsea.arts.ac.uk

We are also encouraging interest from students who feel their involvement would enrich their own practice and connect them to a wider community interested in working with natural materials.

Roles in the project includes:

  • Being part of the team to build the garden space
  • Develop and take part in workshops
  • Creating online resources to support the project’s future development
  • Raising awareness to wider communities with an interest in natural materials.
  • Documenting and reporting on the project to the wider post-grad community and stakeholders at UAL and beyond.

We will soon have an online open questions and discussion session and an onsite visit.  Register your interest as soon as  possible!

This project is kindly funded from CCW (Camberwell Chelsea Wimbledon) KE Impact Fund, and support by UAL's Post-Grad Community
