Post-Grad Community Ambassador Jasmine Osegbu reports on the first edition of Post-Grad Connects which took place on 15 April at the CSM platform bar.

The first edition of Post-Grad Connects was an amazing start to the Spring Term!

The new monthly gathering for UAL postgraduate students is a collaboration between Arts SU and Post-Grad Community Ambassador Jasmine Osegbu. The event provided an opportunity to meet and connect with other UAL postgraduate students, enjoy refreshments and drop into a series of student-led workshops.

Postgraduate students from all colleges and various courses arrived at Central Saint Martins’ Platform Bar and were greeted with drink tokens for the first 60 guests. UAL's Post-Grad Community hosted the event in a section of the bar with sofas and seated tables - it was the perfect setting for socialising, networking and learning something new.

Postgaduate Mac Clapper hosted a workshop on Basic Bookbinding, instructing us on how to bind zines, mini publications, and other small books, along with the fundamentals of imposition and layout.

The students were excited to leave with a small notebook they had made during the workshop!

Soundarya Thandapani hosted Smartphone Photography for Creatives: Portfolio and Social Media Edition. She imparted her knowledge of capturing high-quality, professional portfolio images using a smartphone.

This was an invaluable skill for postgraduate students, and the attendees enjoyed utilising the props provided to practice their new skills! They were able to freely drop in to workshops while the two workshops took place simultaneously.

The students enjoyed the casual setting as a way to meet other postgraduate students, leaving with new connections, future collaborators and friends. Taking place at a UAL Bar or Canteen is great as it gives students the option to stay and continue conversations after the event has wrapped up.

Post-Grad Connects will take place in an alternate UAL College location each month – a wonderful way to visit another college and meet our community of 6000 UAL postgraduate students across London.

This first edition of Post-Grad Connects was a success and the next event will take place at LCC’s Darkroom Bar on 20 May from 5.30 - 7pm.
