The Brick by Bite Interest Group invites UAL postgraduate students (MA and PhD) interested in architecture, urbanism, and food cultures.

Welcome to Brick by Bite, a brand new UAL Post-Grad Interest Group giving postgraduates at UAL an opportunity to explore London through the lenses of food, architecture, and urban culture.

This interest group is especially designed for UAL postgraduates and PhD students who are new to London and eager to build connections while delving into the city’s dynamic urban fabric.

Founded by Ankita Dhal (2026, MA Global Collaborative Design Practice, Camberwell College of Arts), who was inspired by scholars like Kerri Andrews, Jane Jacobs, Michel de Certeau, and Merleau-Ponty, among others, Brick by Bite's mission is to transform the way we experience the city by engaging in immersive, on-foot explorations of its vibrant neighbourhoods.

Meetings - What to expect

Brick by Bite will meet monthly for curated walking tours through various London locations, where you'll discover the city's rich history, striking architecture, bustling food markets, and local cultural nuances. Each session will incorporate elements of discussion and reflection, supported by a continuously evolving reading list that all members can contribute to.

Brick by bite activities will also include opportunities for photography, urban sketching, and interactive dialogue—ensuring that each outing is not only a chance to learn but also a creative and collaborative experience.

Join us as we savor London—one walk, one bite, one conversation at a time.

If you have any questions, or would like to formally register with this Interest Group, then please contact Interest Group Leader Ankita Dhal a.dhal0320241@arts.ac.uk

Post-Grad Interest Groups at UAL

UAL’s Post-Grad Community Programme supports a growing number of issue-specific, cross-disciplinary interest groups led by postgraduate students and academics.

These groups connect creatives with shared research/practice interests across different specialisms and subject areas.

Students have launched interest groups in the past to coincide with exhibitions and symposiums that they have organised under the same theme, or have used Interest Groups as a working group towards research or a standalone event or series.

Interest Groups are a great way to build new networks at UAL for MA and PhD students with shared interests, a useful tool for finding cross-disciplinary students to work with on planned projects/activities, creating new audiences and ways to formally promote your practice.
