Building connections through the mindful practice of knitting, this group fosters creativity, relaxation, and community among postgraduate students from across UAL.

Mindful Knitters is a Post-Grad Interest Group community of creative and mindful postgraduates. Both beginners and skilled knitters are welcome!

Meets

The group aims to meet once a month on a rotational basis at each of the following campus libraries - Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon.

Our meetings are designed to be a 2 hour event that includes hands-on knitting sessions, creative discussions, and ample time to connect with fellow postgraduate students in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

At some of the meets we will also be welcoming UAL's Counselling, Health Advice, and Chaplaincy Service (CHACs), as well as the Disability Service, to participate.

Activities planned

The group's activities will include knitting and crochet workshops, collaborative project planning, discussions on the therapeutic benefits of crafting, and special themed events like a Christmas gathering.

The group is open to beginners and experienced knitters alike, providing a space to learn new techniques, share skills, and explore the broader implications of slow crafting on well-being and sustainable practice.

Supplies Needed
  • Knitting needles
  • Crochet hooks
  • Yarns (including finger yarns)

Post-Grad Interest Groups at UAL

UAL’s Post-Grad Community Programme supports a growing number of issue-specific, cross-disciplinary interest groups led by postgraduate students and academics.

These groups connect creatives with shared research/practice interests across different specialisms and subject areas.

Students have launched interest groups in the past to coincide with exhibitions and symposiums that they have organised under the same theme, or have used Interest Groups as a working group towards research or a standalone event or series.

Interest Groups are a great way to build new networks at UAL for MA and PhD students with shared interests, a useful tool for finding cross-disciplinary students to work with on planned projects/activities, creating new audiences and ways to formally promote your practice.
