Happening on the Second Tuesday of every month * Silent Sessions are being held with London College Fashion’s Collections and Archives and hosted by Susanna Cordner, Senior Research Fellow.

While the monthly Object Based Reading Group sessions happening at London College Fashion’s Collections and Archives encourage participants to discuss what they see, in the ‘Silent Sessions’ we seek to inspire participants to hone their observation skills and practice ‘slow looking’. For each session, a selection of objects from the London College Fashion’s Collections and Archives will be displayed in the space, either individually or in groups, and participants will work independently to collate information on and react to what they see.

Some sessions will be run specifically as life drawing groups (with the models replaced by objects…), with support and material on hand, but the intention is for participants to feel free to document their observations in whatever form most suits them – for instance, while some attendees might want to sketch, others may want to write logs or draft object labels about what they can see. While these sessions will be ‘silent’ (perhaps not quite literally..!) to encourage participants to work individually, there’s also a social element to the events for those who wish to discuss their findings & a complimentary glass of wine will be provided.

Please note that booking is essential as spaces at these events will be limited. To reserve a free space, please email Susanna Cordner directly to book or gain more information: s.cordner@fashion.arts.ac.uk

Some drawing materials will be provided for the event, but please bring your own where possible.

We have a lot of other upcoming events in conjunction with the archive, including our second Object Reading Group on Wednesday 29th March, so expect to hear from me again shortly with details.

Confirmed Silent Session dates:

  • Tuesday 7th November 2017,  6.00 – 7.30pm

Where: Room 418B,London College of Fashion, 20 John Prince’s Street

This event series is a great way to be introduced to the archives and collections held at London College of Fashion and for students and staff to meet others from different disciplines and Colleges. Please note that if you cannot commit to attending the whole series then you are still very welcome to just come along to one or two!

Please email Susanna Cordner directly to book or gain more information: s.cordner@fashion.arts.ac.uk
