By Alistair MacKinnon, MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts for Walls in Online Places Vol.2
My practice involves making immersive, interactive spaces that investigate how our perception operates between cyberspace, real spaces and what this means sociopolitically for BAME. Reality is becoming increasingly integrated with virtual spaces, and the tools that implement them are now having an increasing impact upon our lives.
I create work by translating the physical into the virtual, moving artworks including paintings of my own and photographs of materials into virtual spaces constructed in Blender and Unity.
The way we interact through computer interfaces dictates how the liminality of cyberspace is engaged with. As a result, tech corporations are subject to scrutiny on the absorption of institutional racism.
Lockdown gave me the opportunity to reflect upon instances of underrepresentation and return to protest art, as well as creating spaces to bring people together.
