Course description

Course overview

This practical evening course is designed to introduce students to the wax carving and casting process. Through a combination of demonstrations and practical exercises, students learn how to carve a unique ring or a pendant in wax.

During the course, students gain an understanding of how to size a wax block for a ring, how to cut and carve wax, and how to prepare wax for casting. Once the ring or pendant has been cast in silver, students explore how to clean and polish it.

On completion of this short course, students may progress on to other jewellery making short courses to continue advancing their skills.

Who this course is for

This 5-week evening course is aimed at anyone interested in wax carving who would like to learn how to make their own unique carved ring or pendant. It would be an excellent fit for anyone starting out in jewellery making as well as those who want to refresh their skills and learn wax carving skills.

Students will need to be comfortable working with hand tools and interested in designing a small 3-dimensional ring or pendant. An interest in working sculpturally and exploring wax and metal is essential but no previous experience is needed.
