Animation And Visual Effects Using Maya Short Course

Course description

This five-day introduction to Maya3D short course covers the production workflow to realising a short, animated CGI (computer generated imaging) sequence. This beginners course introduces anyone interested in learning 3D visual effects and animation to Maya, the industry standard software used in the Film, TV and Games Industries. It will give you a solid foundation in the core software tools to produce a short animated sequence.

There are a maximum of nine students enrolled on each session. This is to ensure that you get plenty of one-to-one tuition from your tutor and the class can work at a speed to suit the whole group.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Be able to navigate the modular structure of Maya3D software
  • Be able to build a simple animation sequence and output it as a short movie
  • Have a basic understanding of Animation Principles like keyframes and timing
  • Understand nodes (software chunks) and how they interconnect with one another to build character animation machines

Entry requirements: None. However, ideally students should have access to Maya software to practice outside class time. They may use the computers in the College's library and the Learning Zone (1st floor) for the duration of the course.
