Course overview
The Music Production with Ableton Short Course offers students an insight into the basics of music production using Ableton software.
With a focus on electronic music and music production, this 25-hour course is taught through a combination of workshops, practical exercises on Ableton, in-class discussions and tutor examples.
Students learn the basics of Ableton software, audio editing, DAW session management, creating and manipulating MIDI, synthesis basics, chords and melody, Ableton instruments and effects, arrangement basics for electronic music, automation and mixing.
Students will need to have a copy of Ableton Live software (Ableton 'Suite' is recommended) as they will be expected to work on Ableton for at least 1 hour per day outside of classes. By the end of the course, students should have made a piece of electronic music using Ableton software.
Who this course is for
This course is aimed at beginners with little to no experience of Ableton who are keen to get started making music. It would be an ideal choice for anyone who wants to get into producing electronic music, DJs who want to begin making their own productions, and those interested in learning more about making music on the computer using Ableton. A passion and interest in music in general would be beneficial.

Tutor
Matt Chapman
Matt Chapman is an electronic music artist, Mixing & Mastering Engineer and Teacher. His specialisms include innovative approaches to electronic music, mixing audio, mastering, music production and teaching. Matt has been a teacher of music production since 2011 after completing a PGCE at UEL. He also has a Master's in Electronic Music Composition and BA Hons in Music Technology from UWL - London College of Music. Matt's work has been played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, BBC Asian Network and Noisia Radio. Matt has signed music to Goldie's label Metalheadz METHXX, Dispatch Recordings, Flexout Audio and many other labels in both digital and vinyl formats. He also has a keen interest in many types of music and music production endeavours such as Mastering and making sample packs. As a mixing engineer, Matt has worked on a range of productions, from Foley inspired 'production library' music to Drum and Bass. His style of mixing audio aims to bring clarity and reinforcement of the songs meaning through production techniques. Outside of music, Matt follows the Christian faith, is attempting to learn to speak Spanish, is learning to code in Python, enjoys drawing, maths and learning new skills.Book a course
