Interior Styling and Production for Photo Shoots Short Course
Course description
Course overview
The Introduction to Interior Styling and Production for Photo Shoots Short Course is designed to offer an introduction to interior styling within the commercial photographic industry. Students learn about the role of the interior stylist within a photo shoot team and explore the skills needed to become a successful stylist.
During the course, students become familiar with the top interior industry stylists and interior photographers by exploring examples of their work and portfolios. The course outlines the types of imagery and moving imagery that the team create for magazine advertising, brochures, websites and social media marketing.
Through a combination of seminars, visual references, examples and practical exercises, students are taken through each stage of the styling process from conceptualising, research and sourcing to presenting and production. Students work on a mini styling project which they will complete by the end of the course. This involves working on a real client brief to create concepts for visually exciting and engaging scenes for small still life vignettes and designing and styling a whole room set.
Students will also have the opportunity to spend a day visiting places where a professional stylist sources their props and materials from i.e. props houses, specialised furniture shops and paint and fabric emporiums. This will fuel inspiration and help them gather information to complete their individual projects.
Students will be encouraged to do additional work and research outside of class for approximately 1-2 hours each class.
Who this course is for
The course is ideal for anyone with an interest in interior design, curation, architecture and photography looking to learn about the interior styling industry. You do not need to work in a creative industry to get the most out of the course but a love for interiors, furniture, design and colour is necessary.
A moderate level of digital literacy is required for research purposes including how to use search engines and web browsers. The ability to use Keynote or PowerPoint is an advantage.
