Graphic and Communication Design Short Course
Course description
Course overview
In this 5-week evening short course students gain an understanding of graphic design principles, working on a series of weekly projects to develop their own designs.
The course starts from the viewpoint that there is no such thing as a perfect design, covering core aspects of graphic design such as semiotics and negative space, typography, and visual storytelling. The course will also explore the development of different techniques and styles throughout history.
Students are encouraged to develop their design ideas through homework and group critiques to reflect and provide and receive feedback. Group critique sessions will also allow students to learn and use design terminology while developing their critical dialogue with graphic design practices.
Please note that students are welcome to use computers should they wish to, but this is not a technical course.
