Course description
Course overview
Taught through a combination of lectures, group and individual activities, this week-long course for 11 to 15 year olds explores a range of subjects in the field of graphic communication design.
This unique and intensive course aims to help students build creative skills through design thinking, with a focus on type and image-making. Students discover how design is used to communicate specific messages and gain an insight into the various subjects from the broad scope of graphic design communication.
The course is designed to equip students with transferable skills and inspire future thinking. Students will be expected to prepare work outside of class to get the most out of the course.
Who this course is for
This course is for students who love to create, discover and experiment and want to gain a broader understanding of the various disciplines within graphic design communication (beginners).
Necessary experience: students will need to be comfortable using pencils, paper, smartphone, camera (if accessible), mixed media materials and a sketchbook. Basic experience of drawing would be beneficial.

Tutor
Shernette Daly
Shernette Daly is a graduate from London College of Printing in 1998 (LCP). She has spent over 15 years practicing as an Art Director and Designer, working on an array of projects including; Music Packaging, Branding and Identity, Advertising, Packaging, Editorial Design, Book Publishing, Illustration and Photography for brands such as Sony Europe, Sony BMG, Sanctuary Records, Universal Music, ITV Publishing, EMAP Media Group, and Channel 4. Currently Shernette is an Associate Lecturer for the University of the Arts London and works across curriculums in a broad capacity, delivering specialist theoretical and practical workshops at London College of Communication, Central St Martins and Chelsea School of Art Undergraduate and Foundation courses, this includes; BA Graphic Media Design, BA Graphic Branding and Identity, BA Graphic Design Communication, Pre-Degree in Art and Design, and Cert HE Preparation for Design, Media and Screen. Alongside practicing as a freelance consultant, she also works in radio broadcast.Andrew Holmes
An Art Director and Project Manager working in design, music, fashion and publishing; Andrew has over 20 years of creative experience. Alongside his freelance commissions Andrew is a visiting tutor for Graphic Design Communication short courses at UAL Chelsea College of Arts.Specialising in taking creative projects through full life cycles of production - from concept to completion; Andrew's freelance clients include: New Balance Numeric, Somerset House, DC Shoes, Booth Clibborn Editions, Silas & Maria, MoWax, Polygram & XL Recordings.
