Course overview
This course offers you an exciting opportunity to master the basics of creating your own comics, regardless of your artistic abilities.
In session 1, you'll learn about the features of comics as an art form and start developing your own visual story. In session 2, you'll practice aspects of comic creation and look at pacing and panelling as your comic takes shape. In session 3, you'll complete your comic by adding details, text and colour.
By the end of the course, you'll have created a complete short comic, which you can continue to develop your story in your own time.
Who this course is for
- Students aged 16 to 18 with a passion for art and design, including beginners
- Students interested in reading or drawing comics, graphic novels and/or manga, and enjoy creating their own stories

Tutor
Irina Richards
Irina Richards is a Cambridgeshire-based visual artist specialising in comics, graphic novels, and manga. She studied at Oxford Brookes University, where she completed her PG Cert Education and is currently studying for an MA Artist Teacher Practice. Irina has authored several manga books, including her original title, Chemical Blue, and an instructional book, Creating Manga Characters. Her work was shortlisted for LDC Graphic Novel Prize in 2019. Irina works in both traditional and digital media, and aims to expand and challenge the existing boundaries of the comic medium in her practice. Irina loves anything comics and manga-related, and enjoys introducing learners to this dynamic and popular art form.Book a course
