Course overview

Designed to help students build confidence and resilience, this weekend course at London College of Fashion offers an insight into how to manage the challenges of searching for and retaining employment in the competitive fashion industry.

Through a combination of lectures, practical exercises and group discussions, students explore how to overcome potential setbacks and pitch their brand and themselves in a competitive employment market. The aim is to support students to enhance their job prospects, learn the art of self-promotion, improve interview performance and expand their career horizons.

Over the 2 days, students explore a range of practical strategies through SWOT and growth and fixed mindset strategies to pursue ongoing personal growth. Students have the opportunity to make connections between ideas, barriers and strategies related to resilience and confidence through group discussions by sharing experiences.

During the course, students learn how to answer competency-based questions using the STAR method approach to enable them to give specific examples of how they handle situations and challenges. This technique allows students to prepare and answer behavioral interview questions in a structured way. By the end of the course, students should have learnt effective self-promotion techniques that should be beneficial for all sorts of career opportunities.

Sandra Fearon has more than 20 years experience in the Fashion, Luxury and Media industries, and has worked for several renowned brands including: Elle Magazine, MTV, Alexander McQueen and Yves St Lauren, as well as Dolce & Gabbana, Jimmy Choo, and FitFlop.

She has and MA Academic Practice in Art, Design and Communication, and a PG Cert in Art Design and Communication in Teaching.

Sandra is a UAL Associate Lecturer for Fashion Business and Student Mentor, as well as CEO for Unique Image London, a careers and employability consultancy. She delivers talks, interview techniques workshops, and offers expert CV and portfolio advice to students at major universities across the country. She has also run branding and styling workshops for Tiffany & Co for their client advisors.
