Course overview

Over the course of a single weekend, learn how to trigger your inspiration and visualise ideas quickly by simply working with fabric and pins on a dummy. Explore how by twisting, folding, gathering and layering fabric you can get the most amazing results. Whether you are a beginner of have some experience, you'll discover how to develop fashion ideas and garments in an intuitive, playful and enjoyable way.

You will be introduced to a number of different draping techniques - a set of valuable tools that can be used for designing clothes for yourself or for a high-end fashion collection.

You can bring your own research or a project that you would like to expand with draping. Or you can just come along and let your intuition guide you.

The work that you produce on this course could be an excellent addition to your portfolio whether you want to apply for a fashion design course or a job in the industry.

Salima Sule Ali

Salima Sule Ali is a London-based Womenswear Fashion Designer and facilitator in the art of creativity. Since graduating from the London College of Fashion in 2020 with a BA in Design & Technology Womenswear, she has built her namesake made-to-order luxury brand, SALIMA.ALI, driven by her passion for quality craftsmanship.

Her work is grounded in the principles of quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability in design. With over 10 years of experience in the apparel and fashion industry, Salima has held roles such as Production Assistant, Garment Technologist, Pattern Cutter, and Digitiser. She has collaborated with leading fashion brands and couture houses, gaining extensive knowledge of both creative production processes and the business operations that sustain a fashion brand.

Salima's passion for creative subjects has enabled her to work with a wide range of organisations. Alongside running her brand, she collaborates with University of the Arts London (UAL) as a creativity facilitator, working on projects with the Widening Participation Outreach department and partner colleges. Through these collaborations, she shares her love of fashion and creativity with students while enhancing their knowledge and access to pursue creative pathways at the degree level.

After completing her PG Cert in Academic Practice at UAL in 2022, Salima continues to evolve her practice as a Visiting Practitioner and Guest Lecturer at the London College of Fashion. Central to her teaching philosophy is the belief that facilitating creativity transcends age, and that true knowledge exchange is driven by a passion to explore.
