Course description

Course overview

Taught through a combination of lectures, practical exercises and experiments, this online short course explores draping techniques and garment construction.

During the course students create more elaborate garments on the stand and look at iconic couture garments across various eras, recreating their details by combining different techniques. The course offers demonstrations on how garments are made, and students look at and discuss draped designs to build their understanding.

Students are encouraged to create their own elaborate designs on the stand and present their work in class. This allows students to draw inspiration from each other and discuss the shapes and techniques used to achieve the desired garment.

The course also covers bias draping techniques and how to approach 2D and 3D translation. Students will be required to work a minimum of 8 hours outside of class to get the most out of the course.
