Course description

Course overview

During these 4 weeks, you will explore the foundations of fashion design through research, collage, drawing, 3 dimension development and textile manipulation. It focuses on stimulating a flow of design ideas and illustration techniques to prepare for a fashion-led foundation course or similar. You will be guided through the process of designing and developing a collection and will leave with a strong foundation and the confidence to continue further in fashion.

Technical skills such as pattern cutting, draping and sewing are not part of this course. This course will instead explore creative design development methods such as shape and silhouette development through Paper draping and Textile Manipulation

Throughout the week you will investigate different aspects of a fashion portfolio. The format of the course is designed to encourage creative thought and build your confidence in expressing your ideas. By the end of this short course, you will have a strong portfolio of work in a format suitable for application.

You will also get a chance to discover different UAL student portfolios and meet different specialist tutors to talk about your work and challenge your concepts and creative thinking to give you an insight into the different teaching styles you will experience at higher levels. This will also be an opportunity to receive feedback on your work from a variety of fashion practitioners. By the end of this course, you will have a strong portfolio of work in a format suitable for fashion studies application.
