
Fashion Sketchbook for 16 to 18 Year Olds Short Course
Course description
In this intensive two-week course for beginners, you will explore different ways of creating a personal fashion designer sketchbook. It will be a chance for you to unlock your creative mind. The course is a vehicle for you to challenge your ideas about fashion. You will collect, record and process inspiration, try out ideas, explore success and failure, and be encouraged to take risks.
Topics covered
- How to source and do visual research for inspiration.
- Developing and presenting your fashion ideas.
- Exploring various techniques and media in order to explore different types of drawing and presentation skills.
- Guided study trip to explore as source of inspiration. This may include specialist shops, current exhibitions or museum galleries.
Outcomes
- You will end up with your own sketchbook filled with designs and ideas for your personal fashion collection
- You will learn how to use different methods and materials in order to build an effective fashion sketchbook
- You should gain a better understanding of how designers use research in order to feed their imagination and develop their designs.
Who should take this course?
- Teenagers interested in studying fashion design or illustration
- Those keen to learn more about Central Saint Martin's approach to fashion design.
- Students wanting to create and/or improve a fashion sketchbook/portfolio.
Entry requirements: You must be at least 16 and no older than 18 years-old to do this course. If you are over 18 you can do Creating a Fashion Sketchbook Short Course.
Please note: There will be research trip outside of the College to a museum, gallery or other location. Students will be accompanied from and returned to College if required. Any entry tickets will be provided, but students will need to cover the cost of travel.
Level: Beginners

- Our tutors will explain things in easy to understand, accessible English. If they need to use any special terminology they will make sure they explain what they mean.

- As long as you attend a minimum of 80% of your classes, we will provide you with a certificate of attendance

Materials
Please bring with you to the first session:
- old copies of fashion magazines for cutting up
- any fashion images or books that you find interesting and relevant to you.
If possible please bring a camera or camera phone to record the process of making work, and the outcomes. Everything needed to complete the course is provided, but please feel free to bring any current sketchbooks or materials you enjoy using.
