Course overview

This intensive course for beginners is designed to help you explore new ways of creating a personal fashion design sketchbook and unlock your creative potential.

The course offers a unique opportunity to challenge your ideas about fashion. Through collecting, recording, and processing inspiration, you'll experiment with ideas, explore success and failure, and be encouraged to take creative risks.

Who this course is for

  • Students aged 16 to 18 with an interest in studying fashion design or illustration
  • Students who are keen to learn more about Central Saint Martins' approach to fashion design
  • Students wanting to create and/or improve a fashion sketchbook or portfolio

  • How to source and do visual research for inspiration
  • Develop and present you fashion ideas
  • Explore various techniques and media to explore different types of drawing and presentation skills
  • Guided study trip to explore as source of inspiration, including specialist shops, current exhibitions or museum galleries

  • Fill your sketchbook with designs and ideas for your personal fashion collection
  • Experience different methods and materials to build an effective fashion sketchbook

Materials

  • Old copies of fashion magazines for cutting up
  • Any fashion images or books that you find interesting and relevant to you
  • If possible, please bring a camera or camera phone to record the process of making the work, and the outcomes.

Everything else needed to complete the course is provided, but please feel free to bring any current sketchbooks or materials you enjoy using.

Tutor

Daniela Bomba

Daniela is a womenswear designer, print designer and creative consultant. She has worked both in London and abroad for luxury fashion houses and brands, and tutored at Central Saint Martins. Daniela began her studies at Ravensbourne College of Art Design and Communication and completed her Masters in Fashion Womenswear at Central Saint Martins. She has worked for a number of fashion labels including Jonathan Saunders and Luella as a designer and as consultant to brands including Adam Andrascik and Selfridges. Daniela is a lead tutor womenswear on the Fashion Folio course at Central Saint Martins.
