Course overview
This course offers an opportunity to sample Foundation level standards with the guidance from an expert tutor. You will build a strong portfolio whilst following the areas that interest you the most.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone interested in preparing their portfolio for foundation fashion and textiles, regardless of prior experience. Beginners and those with some previous knowledge are welcome.

Materials
- A3 drawing paper (loose cartridge paper, minimum thickness 140g)
- Drawing equipment (2B pencil, sharpener, black marker pen (thick), black felt-tip pens, coloured inks, colour pencils/pastels)
- Masking tape
- Pritt-stick
- Scissors (for fabric and paper)
- Scalpel Camera
Tutor
Dominic Akhavan-Moossavi
Dominic-Afsheen Akhavan-Moossavi is a graduate from the BA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins. He is a menswear designer, with a deep interest in print, colour and performance. As well as his own practice he is involved in education and helping anyone achieve their potential and ideas.Berni Yates
Berni Yates has over 30 years experience in the Fashion and Textiles sector – she has worked for Central Saint Martins for the past 20 years – her specialist area is Fashion Knitwear.
Berni has many years of experience supporting young people with access and progression onto Art Foundation and Fashion, Textiles and Jewellery Degree courses at CSM and other HEIs.
She has been instrumental in setting up community Arts projects PAN UK, to support Art Education.
Berni is currently lead on Knowledge Exchange for the Fashion programmes at CSM, working across the sector talking to industry experts and weaving new knowledge into the curriculum.
She has a wealth of Insights into the Fashion and Textiles industry and continues to consult and design her own label of bespoke knit garments. She is also joint course director for Textiles Portfolio short course at CSM.
Berni has a broad knowledge of learning and teaching at CSM and UAL more broadly, so is well placed to help with portfolio building.
