Course overview
This 5-week evening course at London College of Fashion is designed to guide students through the process of making a classic shirt with all the details such as cuffs, collar, yoke and sleeves.
Short course students have the opportunity to access specialist facilities and a wide variety of equipment including sample and sewing rooms on campus at LCF East Bank. London College of Fashion has been nurturing creative talent for over a century with a philosophy of open and inclusive education.
During the course, students learn how to make a classic shirt and gain an understanding of 4 basic seams used within the industry depending on the fabrics that their shirt is constructed from.
Who this course is for
This 5-week evening course is aimed at beginners who would like to learn how to make a classic shirt. Some sewing knowledge would be beneficial but is not essential.
The course would also be a good fit for those who have some sewing experience and would like to develop their skills.

Tutor
Charlie Lewis
Charlie Lewis studied BA Fashion at Manchester School of Art, graduating in 2014. Since then she has worked within the fashion industry in design, creative direction and manufacture. For the last 5 years Charlie Lewis has worked as a fashion technician within the world-renowned fashion department at Central St Martins, UAL. She teaches students construction methods, sewing skills and use of specialist industrial machinery. She is a highly skilled sample machinist specialising in delicate woven fabrics, machine and hand embroidery and evening wear.
Lewis'' eponymous ready-to-wear label has been featured in Nick Knight''s fashion film ''Girly'' as well as numerous publications including Garage, Vogue, Vice etc. She has worked with clients including Phoebe English, Netflix, SHOWStudio, Frieze, Baby Cow Productions and Jayne Pierson as a print designer, stylist and sample machinist.
With a specialism in hand painting, Lewis'' work as a freelance pattern designer has seen her work with clients in fashion, art, film and interiors in both the UK and internationally on projects for The Crown, Dior, Eva Sonaike and Venice Biennale to name a few.
