Course description

Course overview

This bespoke waistcoat making short course is based on traditional tailoring techniques using hand sewing skills, canvas, pressing techniques and some machining throughout the entire process of making.

The course is taught through 5 practical sessions demonstrating laying the pattern, adding inlay, preparing and cutting the fabric, canvassing, pockets, adding lining and finishing. It aims to not just show students how to make a handcraft waistcoat, but also to demonstrate why these processes are carried out.

Due to the intense pace of this course, students are advised to catch up on work outside of class and complete any assigned homework.

Who this course is for

This course is aimed at anyone interested in handcraft tailoring who wants to explore the waistcoat making aspect for personal development or work in the bespoke tailoring field.

Students must be able to use an open-ended thimble and be comfortable using a sewing machine. Students should know basic tailoring hand stitches e.g. basting stitch, mark stitch and felling, however these can be taught if they are willing to put in the time.
