Menswear Pattern Cutting Intensive Short Course
Course description
Course overview
This course offers you an excellent opportunity to learn and develop all aspects of professional menswear pattern-cutting skills to industry standards. The course will introduce you to exciting new methods of contemporary pattern cutting for menswear, focusing on current trends and shapes as well as covering the more traditional methods.
You will start with an introduction to industry standards, basic blocks and be taken step-by-step through the core skills of pattern reading and style interpretation. First, you will focus on the menswear body block and sleeve, learning the basics of pattern manipulation before moving on to create patterns for a variety of menswear garments. You will learn how to alter patterns for fit, as well as how to change the look of a garment to create different silhouettes and for working with different fabrics.
During the course, you will build up a reference file of pattern work and notes. You will also produce basic sample pieces for some of the patterns you have worked on, to enable you to test your patterns for fit and accuracy.
