Course description

Course overview

This short intensive course builds on Experimental And Explorative Approaches Part 1, and explores some unconventional and inventive approaches to patternmaking and shape creation.

You will be encouraged to think 'outside the box' and experiment with abstract and geometric shapes in both 2D and 3D, and to observe how they relate to the body as garments.

The course intends to lead you on a journey of discovery at the end of which, it is hoped, you will rethink your approach to design and patternmaking. Tutor-led demonstrations will provide the starting point from which to practise a series of calico modelling skills, leading on to the creation of your own 'geometrically draped' toile.

Who this course is for

This course is suitable for students aged 18 and older. Some knowledge of conventional flat patternmaking is essential to follow the programme. Intermediate sewing skills and competent use of industrial machinery are also necessary if you are to fully exploit this course. Ideally, students should have completed our Part 1 course before enrolling on this one.
