Course overview
This step-by-step introductory pattern cutting course will introduce you to the basic techniques for womenswear pattern cutting. You will be working from a standard size 12 template (block) and investigate how to make a range of pattern pieces for the bodice, skirt and sleeve. You will get the opportunity to discuss different styles and how you can alter your patterns to create different shapes. The course will also cover a brief introduction to sizing and how you can modify your patterns for a better fit.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone, aged 18 and older, interested in the basic techniques for womenswear pattern cutting, regardless of prior experience. Beginners are welcome, as are those looking to expand existing knowledge.

- Pattern master (the tutor will advise where to purchase this in the first session)
Tutor
Annie Shellard
Annie Shellard has 30 years of experience working in womenswear as a designer and pattern cutter. Her current professional practise specialisms are lingerie and bridalwear. Annie’s first design job was for a small London based manufacturer and wholesaler. Due to the size and nature of the business, she became skilled in all areas of the design and production processes. This experience has underpinned her approach to working within the industry and in her own businesses. Annie first began her teaching career at London College of Fashion in 2002. She has been teaching at FE and HE levels since that time and became a member of the Higher Education Academy in 2012.
Claudette Davis-Bonnick
Claudette Davis-Bonnick is an experienced lecturer with over three decades in Creative Pattern Cutting, Design Realisation and Construction. Specialising in eveningwear, bridalwear, and leatherwear, Claudette brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her students.
Following her university education, Claudette designed and made the British uniforms for the Orient Express. She honed her skills at the BBC''s costume department, later working for a renowned haute couture designer and in tailoring, before establishing herself as a self-employed professional.
Currently, Claudette is a PhD candidate at the University of the Arts London (UAL), where she is conducting groundbreaking research on multisensory teaching methods for creative practice, particularly focusing on students with visual impairments at creative arts universities.
Sally Pittman
Sal Pittman is a lecturer in Design and Creative Pattern Cutting. She has worked with London College of Fashion for 16 years. She teaches design and research methods across a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses She has 25 years experience in pattern and creative cutting working across industry in contemporary and vintage cutting, tailoring as well as production and costume design in theatre and film. Sal is also a critically acclaimed artist/filmmaker as co-founder of company KlangHaus.Book a course
