Course description

Course overview

This beginner's course for 11 to 15 year-olds introduces students to basic sewing techniques, focusing on building practical skills to put together various types of garments and small accessories.

Students gain an understanding of some of the different types of sewing machines used in the industry and what each is used for.

Practical exercises will cover core skills like how to lay out pattern pieces onto fabric, how to cut them out, and stitching on fabric to create different textures. Students will also work on putting together various seams and hems for garment making and other items.

Banetta has worked in various sample rooms over the years, including 10 years in Monsoon sample room after developing her skills, and for British Designer Matthew Williamson. Banetta has worked with UAL, London College of Fashion for over 24 years as a learning and teaching Specialised Garment Technician. This allows her to teach and explore different ways of imparting her skills to students.
