
Fine Art for 16 to 18 Year Olds Short Course
Course description
Our fine art short course for 16 to 18 year olds gives students a week of practical learning, exploring and experimenting with materials to find new ways of expressing ideas.
To gain inspiration, the class will go over the work of modern and contemporary artists, and investigate scale and the impact of creating artwork in different sizes and formats.
In the second half of the week, students will develop their own fine art project, which they will share with the group at the end of the course.
Course outcomes
At the end of the course students will have a greater understanding of the processes and materials used in fine art. They will have developed confidence in expressing and visualising ideas, gain drawing skills and understand experimental process. They will come away with an understanding of how to build and prepare a portfolio of work.
Who should attend
This course is aimed at anyone aged 16 to 18 years with an interest in art and design. Whether they are considering pursuing further education in art or are just looking for a fun, creative experience!

Booking:
Your course place is confirmed once you have booked online using a credit or debit card. There is no deadline for booking. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis, and all courses have a maximum number of students. We suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.

Materials
Please gather as many of the following items, before the course:
- pencils
- pens and markers (biros, fineliners, highlighters, etc)
- coloured pencils/ markers / crayons
- eraser
- pencil sharpener
- charcoal
- A4 cartridge paper x 50 sheets (or sketchbook)
- A3 cartridge paper x 10 sheets (or sketchbook)
- coloured paper
- A4 Cutting mat or thick card for cutting with a knife
- masking tape
- glue stick/glue
- scissors / Craft knife
- magazines / newspapers to cut up (or print outs from the internet)
- set of brushes
- acrylic paint in primary colours Red, Blue, Yellow and White
- watercolours or other water-soluble paint or pencils
- paper for painting
- rags / tissues / pots for water etc.
- paper, card, string, wire, recycling bin contents etc…
- stapler
