Course description
Course overview
This course is designed to help you build a strong portfolio for full-time study, with expert guidance and invaluable tips on applying to both full and part-time foundation courses.
Starting from objective drawing, you'll explore expressive techniques using charcoal, paint, collage and graphic tools to develop a varied body of work through daily activities that encourage different approaches to drawing.
Alongside hands-on practice in a learning environment that mirrors a Foundation course, you'll also receive valuable and personalised advise to boost your confidence and readiness for the next stage in creative education.

Tutor
Theokritos Papadopoulos
Kriton Papadopoulos is an artist and he also completed his PhD at Central Saint Martins looking at the development of the Avant-garde. He has organized various community art projects in collaboration with Kids Company, the Royal Festival Hall and Royal Academy. He has had solo exhibitions both in UK and Europe, including the Tate Modern and Serpentine Gallery. He also exhibits his work with aaart gallery, Athens. Kriton has been an Associate Lecturer at the University of the Arts London since 2003.

Val Mcbride
Valerie McBride is a book illustrator who has worked for several publishers including Oxford University Press, Heinemann and BBC Books. Her work explores different ways of illustrating her own stories and imagined worlds through panoramic sequences, animation, print and three-dimensional interpretation.
Valerie is a very experienced tutor who has been teaching at the University of Arts, London for the past 20 years. She is an associate lecturer at Camberwell College of Arts where she teaches illustration at Foundation level and at postgraduate level on the Graduate Diploma course.
She has also contributed regularly to gallery education programmes, providing master classes relating to temporary exhibitions and was a tutor for the National Association of Decorative and Fine Art Society.

Seán Myers
Seán Myers works with Foundation, BA and MA students at Central Saint Martins. He is an artist and lecturer and also runs a silkscreen printing studio in North London.

Harriet Hedden
Harriet Hedden is a painter and printmaker and has taught Foundation, BA and MA students in London and Europe for over 20 years. She currently teaches UAL Foundation in London and runs a part time Foundation Course for adults in Bloomsbury.
Whilst teaching on the Foundation course at Central Saint Martins she developed the Pre-Foundation Portfolio class which she has now delivered at Chelsea for over 12 years. She exhibits internationally and combines different media including drawing paint, print and 3D.
