Course description

Course overview

Designed to support artistic development, this course explores mark making through a series of exciting tasks which look at the interplay and use of a multitude of media.

During the course, students create drawings while responding to automatic movement, stimulating different parts of the brain and working with the body to push the boundaries between drawing and painting.

Students discuss emotional responses to composition and visual structure, media quality and the use of different supports. The course provides a great opportunity to hone skills and explore different materials and drawing styles.

Students use monochrome and colour to approach describing shape and volume in directional movement with quality of line, compositional flow and media texture.

Over the two days, students will build their own vocabulary of mark making textures and knowledge of mixed interaction. Students form their own interpretation of what drawing is, increase their spatial awareness and look at drawing as both a 2D and 3D medium.

Who this course is for

This practical course is aimed at both beginners and those already studying art and design. It would also be an excellent fit for artists looking to strengthen their artistic experience.
