Course overview
This course will introduce you to freehand sketching in London's authentic markets from vegetables to vintage, flowers and food - Lower Marsh to leather lane, Berwick to Borough Markets.
Each day we will visit a new market and draw on location capturing the character and details of the market.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone who is curious to discover new ways of sketching on location and recording the hustle and bustle of London markets.
This is a Summer School only short course running only once a year. We encourage early bookings to secure your place.

Topics covered
- Using different media and materials with helpful tutorial advice, you will learn how to capture and record through drawing the atmosphere of the markets and build up a sketchbook of lively drawings
 - In the afternoon you will work up the sketches and create more substantial drawings using the research you have gathered
 - You will experiment with a variety of different materials (acrylic and watercolour, different papers and simple printing techniques)

Howard Read
Howard Read is a freelance illustrator and a graduate of the Royal College of Art. He teaches on the BA Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martins.
