Sketching the Urban Composition Short Course
Course description
Course overview
One of the most engaging ways of investigating London's many interesting and unique places is by foot with a sketchbook in hand. Drawing is a most effective way of capturing your experience of mood, energy and architecture.
This relaxed and structured hands on course is ideal for those with an enjoyment of drawing and who wish to develop their responses to the city. Beginning on the pages of your book you will be given sketching strategies on location; you will then go on to create your own inventive urban compositions back in the studio.
On the first day students will sketch outside on location and on the second day use these drawings and subsequent plans to make one or more compositions back at the studio on day two.
Through a range of engaging exercises including imagination, mark making, compositional plans and looking at a range of city artists, you'll learn how to be more creative with your art materials and more ambitious with your designs going on to build drawings that have both structure and spontaneity.
Who this course is for
This course is ideal for students at any level who through a range of ways of working want to take their sketches towards a sustained, inventive and personal outcome.
No previous experience needed but having been in previous sketching outdoor classes could be useful but not necessary.
