
Life Painting for 16 to 18 Year Olds Short Course
Course description
The ideas and methods of great painters, past and present, will be also used as inspiration. Come prepared to think differently about what you see and to leave with some great work for your portfolio.
Who should take this course?
The course is suitable for:
- beginners wishing to develop their painting skills
- students considering applying for further study
- those wishing to strengthen their fine art portfolio
Entry requirements: You must be at least 16 and no older than 18 years old.

Clear, easy to understand lessons:
- Our tutors will explain things in easy to understand, accessible English. If they need to use any special terminology they will make sure they explain what they mean.

Topics covered
We will work through a variety of exercises around:
- mixing and applying colours
- using a variety of palettes (warm, cool, earth colours and so on)
- understanding tonal relationships
- appreciating the importance of composition
- producing a variety of paintings: small and large scale
By the end of the course students will have practiced and developed a number of painting techniques and approaches. They will have developed an understanding of some key skills required to manipulate acrylic paint. They should have more confidence to paint and will have produced a number of figure paintings which could potentially be used in their portfolios.
Materials
If possible please bring a camera or camera phone to record the process of making work, and the outcomes. Everything needed to complete the course is provided, but please feel free to bring any current sketchbooks or materials you enjoy using.
