Course overview
This exciting short course for 11 to 15 year-olds offers an in-depth overview of contemporary illustration in all its forms and an insight into the basics of communicating visually through pictures.
Through a series of lectures and practical activities, students gain an awareness of what studying and working with illustration entails; they'll begin to acknowledge the inspiration that comes from the world around them and explore how to find a personal way to convey that through images.
Each session covers a different form of image-making and the industry it relates to using a variety of methods and approaches to find the most inspiring pathway for them. This could include editorial illustration, advertising illustration, fashion illustration and visual storytelling.
Who this course is for
This course is aimed at students aged between 11 and 15 with an interest in illustration. All levels are welcome, but students should have some basic drawing skills.

Tutor
Alessandra Genualdo
Alessandra Genualdo is an Italian born, London based illustrator.
She graduated from the MA Illustration course at Camberwell College of Arts, and has been freelancing ever since, addressing her work particularly to the editorial and the publishing industry.
She has been leading art and illustration workshops alongside her practice, working for clients such as the V&A and the Museum of London.
Her work combines gouache, hand painted patterns, textures and solid blocks of colour, capturing the sense of awkwardness and individuality in everyday life.
