How do we transform experience and imagination into compelling prose? These eight-week courses are designed to develop your creative skills and confidence to write.
Here is an opportunity to explore your powers of expression in a critical but supportive environment. Weekly assignments (homework between classes) and group discussions (in person) will help you to refine your craft, strengthen your narrative voice and understand your audience. Personalised tuition and advice will address the writing process, from getting started to getting published. And all the stories in between...
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone interested in learning about factual or fictional creative writing. Although it is better suited to beginners, all levels of previous experience are welcome.

Topics covered
- This course is about creativity and storytelling, fiction or non-fiction. Each session is a practical workshop where you can expect lively discussion and debate, in-class readings of written assignments, and on-the-spot feedback
- These activities require an assured level of spoken English and aural comprehension, as well as confident written English
- We will explore creative concepts, nuances of meaning, intention and interpretation, literary styles and narrative techniques
- We will not address issues of grammar, unless key to the storytelling (This is not an English language course)
- After every workshop, the tutor will send reading materials and assignments for each student to work through for the following week

Tutor
Elise Valmorbida
Elise Valmorbida has published journalism, poetry, short stories, three non-fiction books and four novels including The Madonna of the Mountains (Faber & Faber), which was translated into several languages and won Australia’s biggest literary award in 2019. Elise’s new work, The Happy Writing Book: Discover the Positive Power of Creative Writing, is published internationally in September 2021 by Laurence King (Orion/Hachette). An award-winning designer, indie film producer and communications consultant, Elise has taught creative writing at Central Saint Martins for 20+ years.
