Course overview
This 6-week course is designed to help new costume trainees coming onto a set for the first time to understand the environment, tools required and what's expected of them to empower them to feel comfortable stepping into the role.
During the course, students gain an insight into the key aspects of the costume department for film and TV through a series of lectures and practical exercises. Students explore their role within this and consider how to navigate and interact with other departments within a film set.
The course covers everything from what should be in your kit, on set etiquette and shorthand, reading and understanding a call sheet, script analysis and breakdown to dealing with actors and supporting artists.
Students finish the course with fundamental knowledge of the costume department for film and TV, giving them an advantage in a competitive role.

Learning outcomes

- Be able to read and understand a call sheet, shooting schedule, understand radio communication on set, be aware of set terminology and navigating around a unit base
- Have knowledge of what tools should be in your kit
- Understand your role on a set and how other departments relate to the role
- Identify what you can bring to the costume department to set them apart from other trainees and have a CV to reflect this
- Receive a digital badge and certificate of attendance
