Photography Traditional And Contemporary Practice Short Course | On campus
Explore the full spectrum of photographic practice. This course introduces both traditional and contemporary techniques, from darkroom and film camera work to digital camera use, editing software, and modern photographic approaches.

Course description

Course overview

This course will cover the contemporary and traditional aspects of photographic practice, introducing students to both new and old photographic techniques. The course will explore the darkroom, the film camera and primitive imagine making, moving onto introduction to the digital camera, editing programs and contemporary photographic practice.

As the debate continues with the cross over from film photography to digital photography, beginners coming to the photographic industries are very often unaware of the quality of the traditional photograph and how this can be integrated with digital media to benefit from the use of both ways of working. This course aims to illustrate a variety of traditional and new media to demonstrate how this is playing an important role in contemporary photography today.

On this course, students will learn the basic functions of operating a camera. They will learn this both through digital cameras and traditional cameras. The course will then move forward by combining both methods of working and showing the advantage of the marriage of both. The course then looks at the contemporary photographic industry and concentrates on producing contemporary projects using methods both old and new. This is an ideal course to kick-start a portfolio or get that project you wanted to start on your own way in photography.
