What is the UAL Career Toolkit?

Access careers support and guidance through your Moodle account.

Our new range of online learning resources are aimed at developing your career skills at a pace that suits you.

You can access UAL Careers and Employability services, support and guidance through the toolkit, with subjects such as:

  • getting career ready
  • working for yourself
  • funding and awards
  • your creative rights
  • develop your skills
  • build your network.

You will also receive a newsletter with the latest events and opportunities from the Careers and Employability team.

We created each course to help you develop a particular skillset. The following resources are currently available in the UAL Career Toolkit.

Planning your creative project

Imagine you have had a fabulous idea for a creative project, and now you are fired up to raise money and support for it! But first you need to decide on all the practical aspects of delivering your project, so you can bring those supporters on board.

This module is designed to help you tackle all the operational aspects of running a project, approaching it from all angles.

Valuing your creative rights

This course has been designed to support you when thinking about how to best protect, manage and share your work. It will help you understand how your intellectual property (IP) works both at UAL and in professional practice.

Creating a CV

Our CV Library is resource for you to see visual examples of CVs, to learn key information that will help you in your employment journey, and to challenge yourself with questions that you may not have considered before. No matter if you visit this resource once, or if you continue to return, we hope that you enjoy it and that it helps you in some way.

Networking

This module has been split into three separate courses. You can complete as many as you want to.

What is networking? Why should I do it?

This module has been created to support you when planning to make connections to further your professional practice, career, or development.

It aims to help you understand the act of networking, what it is and why people do it. We'll look at the benefits and the things to consider to make networking enjoyable for you, rather than something to shy away from.

This module has been created to support you when thinking about making connections to further your professional practice, career, or development. It aims to help you understand the act of networking, specifically where to network based on your intentions.

Engage your network

This module will help you understand and engage your network more meaningfully. It will cover when and how networks can be useful, relationship dynamics, and ways to stay active within your connections.

You’ll also create a personalised engagement plan to guide your network interactions.

Time to Trademark

This course will help you to learn what a trademark is. It will help you to understand how you might benefit from a trademark when launching and developing your personal brand or business.

Trademarks protect distinctive elements of a brand. They can help individuals, SMEs, and start-up businesses to develop authentic relationships. In this lesson, you can explore more about how to develop a recognisable brand and build a strong reputation.

Develop your skills

This course is all about understanding your skills. The skills you have now, how to showcase them, and how to identify skills you might need in the future. By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • consider and identify the skills that are needed for your future career, whether that’s running your own business, freelancing or securing a graduate-level job.
  • build confidence in articulating and sharing the skills you already have,
  • understand how to showcase the skills that you already have, for your future career,
  • plan the skills you wish to develop to support your future career further.

How to cost and price your work

Costing and pricing your products correctly is essential to the success of your business. This resource aims to help you understand what might determine your price for products or services.

We will cover:

  • introducing you to key terminology
  • what costs you might need to consider
  • understanding how you might calculate costs and prices
  • other factors that might impact your pricing.
