Meet the winners of the Creative Enterprise Awards 2019

UAL’s Creative Enterprise Awards took place at CSM’s Platform Theatre on Wednesday 3 July. Organised by Careers and Employability, the awards recognise the entrepreneurial activity of students and graduates of our six Colleges.

The evening was presented by comedian, writer and producer Kemah Bob who is an alum of the MA Television course at LCC. The trophies were also designed and made by Arturo Soto who graduated from Camberwell’s MA Designer Maker course in 2017.

This year’s partners included: Cockpit Arts, The Design Laboratory, Détroit is the New Black, Google for Startups Campus, Holition, LocalGlobe, Opendesk, Top Drawer and our own Short Courses and Alumni teams.

Nine winners walked away with a share of prizes including: industry mentoring, showcasing opportunities, specialist business training and grants of up to £5,000:

The 2019 winners are:

Artist/Maker Award

Koa Pham, Madeleine Duflot and Ania Marciniak from Ilco (MA Industrial Design, Central Saint Martins)

A product design studio creating functional artworks to enhance users’ positive energy and social interaction.

Community Project Award

Tina Wetshi from Colèchi (MA Culture, Criticism, Curation Central Saint Martins)

An online forum and series of events for young fashion start-ups from under-represented backgrounds, to encourage collaborative learning.

Freelancer Award

Andrea Li and Michelle Lim from li-m Studio (BA Graphic Communication Design, Central Saint Martins)

An experiential design studio using the senses to create engaging participatory experiences, bringing clients and their audiences together.

Global Award

Ke Zhang, Shuoshuo Xu and Xiang Li from Archipelago Studio (MA Fashion Journalism, London College of Fashion)

A PR communication and consultancy agency dedicated to helping SME British fashion brands enter the Chinese market.

Social Enterprise Award

Lu Zhu from Seaweed Wonderland (MA Fashion Entrepreneurship and Innovation, London College of Fashion)

Nightwear using eco-friendly materials containing seaweed which has health benefits for   the wearer.

Technology Award

Eugene Tan from Unbound (MA Communication Design, Central Saint Martins)

The world’s first mass-produced web connected book, integrating print with emergent technology.

ArtsTemp of the Year Award

Ebony Harper (BA Fashion Buying & Merchandising, London College of Fashion)

Senior Wellbeing Representative from Accommodation Services

not just a shop Seller of the Year Award

Lilly Mandarano from The Super Sparrow (BA Fine Art, Central Saint Martins)

Ceramics brand based in Deptford, South London. All pieces are built and glazed by hand.

Alumni Entrepreneur Award

Rebecca Okell from Paynter Ltd. (MSc International Fashion Management, London College of Fashion)

Celebrating sustainable mills and makers by releasing limited edition jackets that are made to order.
