Health and safety at LCC

Smoking and vaping

In the UK, smoking is not allowed inside public buildings, so please don’t smoke or vape inside LCC.

If you want to smoke or vape, please go outside and stay at least 5 metres away from any doors or openings.

Fire safety at LCC

If you discover a fire, activate the fire alarm at the nearest call point located at all emergency exits.

If the alarm sounds, evacuate the building by the safest, shortest route to the assembly point at St. Mary’s Churchyard (next to St. Gabriel Walk), approximately 150-metres from the College. Do not stop to collect personal belongings; do not use lifts; and do not re-enter the building until you have been told it is safe to do so

While it’s unlikely that there will be a fire in one of our buildings, we ask all of our staff and students to treat every alarm as a real emergency.

Fire alarm tests at LCC are carried out weekly on Tuesdays, 9.45am.

First aid

First Aid kits are located at Reception and throughout the College. Each box is clearly identified by an accompanying poster which includes information about how to contact a first aider. To contact the emergency services from an internal phone, call 5-999 and give them the site address which is on the first aid posters.

A Defibrillator is available at Reception.

Mental health first aid

Students who are concerned about their or someone else’s mental health should contact the Student Counselling Service. For student mental health or wellbeing assistance, dial 020 7514 6426 or email studenthealth@arts.ac.uk.

For major incidents, the emergency services must be contacted immediately by dialling 999 (5999 if using an internal phone).

Mental Health First Aiders are in all Colleges and can provide immediate support to people in crisis.
