Hi, my name is Peter Krupski and I'm studying here at UAL for the summer study abroad program in textile design. Back at home, I study at the University of Anchorage, AK in Alaska Native art.
What are your thoughts on your course?
I really like the three-week course design because it's very straight to the point. You start immediately and it’s super hands-on, especially the textile design course. It's very messy and I really enjoy that. I'm not much of a digital media person. So, this made me feel right at home.
What was the best part about studying in London?
The best part about studying in London, in my opinion has been just how different it is from back home. I come from quite a small city. So, to go from a city of about 300,000 people to, you know, over 8,000,000 is exciting and new. Public transportation here actually works and it’s so nice to be able to move around the city with that kind of ease. I really love how friendly everyone is here. It's been a very interesting experience. I invite the culture shock more than being afraid of it.

What would you say to someone considering the course?
To someone considering the 3-week textile design program, I would say be prepared to get very hands on and messy. It's not for those who want to dress up and wear nice clothes every day. However, I absolutely recommend it because you'll make some things that you are absolutely proud of. And it's so fun to take one idea and see how far you can stretch it.
Can you tell us more about your final project?
A lot of my body of work at home focuses on the cycles of growth and decay. And so how decay is not necessarily the end of a piece of work, it can continue on and grow and become something new. For my final project I wanted to bring the concept from home but incorporate London into it. A lot of the pieces in my work are from the Wallace Collection that we went and explored on the second day of class. And then I incorporated all my own different drawings into one big screen that I got to print over and over again. So, my pieces are mainly from the Wallace Collection, but I always sneak my dog into about every piece of art that I make.
