AI in Art and Design Education Practice Sharing Day: Call for presentations

The University of the Arts London (UAL) and the Council for Higher Education in Art & Design (CHEAD) are inviting educators and students from art schools, colleges and universities to present their creative ideas and evaluation of designing, learning and utilising GenAI tools.

Objective

The purpose of this practice sharing event is to inspire students and educators across various roles, disciplines and professional areas within art schools to explore, implement and critique GenAI in their teaching practices. By sharing and experimenting with AI, we aim to foster novel connections, discoveries and insights that positively impact the educational landscape.

Location

This will be a fully online event via MS Teams.

Presentation themes

Creative Synergies: Exploring AI in Art and Design Education

Focus on how AI tools are being integrated into art and design curricula to enhance creative processes and expand pedagogical approaches.

Teaching Tomorrow: Preparing Students for an AI-Enhanced Creative Industry

Exploration of how to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to navigate and lead in creative industries increasingly shaped by AI technologies.

Ethics and Innovation: AI in Art and Design Pedagogy

Conversations about the ethical implications of using AI in creative education and how to instil critical thinking in students regarding AI-generated work.

Equity in Education: Creating Inclusive and Accessible Learning Environments

Focus on practices that promote diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom, ensuring all students thrive.

Assessment and Feedback: Evolving Practices using AI

Learning - Sharing innovative approaches to assessment that go beyond traditional tests, focusing on formative feedback and student-driven evaluation.

Submission guidelines

Information required

  • Title of your presentation
  • Full name(s)
  • Email address (includes details for all contributors if a joint submission)
  • Role and institutional affiliation
  • Brief description of your case study/learning resource or course
  • Context of creation (for example, part of a course for assessment)
  • Link to the GenAI tool(s) used
  • Explanation of the process and interaction with the GenAI tool(s)
  • Key learnings and recommendations for others

Optional

  • Link to more information (for example, blog or website)
  • Relevant references
  • Social media handle(s)
  • High-resolution picture of the resource/output (if applicable)

Deadline for submissions

Please submit proposals by 25 April 2025.

To submit your resource, please complete the online proposal form.

Invitation to publish

Presenters will be invited to write up their presentation and these will be collated into a Publication for distribution to the wider Art and Design education sector.
