The Sustainability Alumni Network educates, showcases, and connects UAL alumni practicing sustainable methods of business, design, and creativity. Since our launch in 2021, we have held a wide range of events to support alumni interested in sustainability.
If you haven’t been to one yet, make sure you subscribe to our Sustainability Network mailing list and we will make sure to invite you.

Panel discussion: strategies for a sustainable future, February 2025
Graduates and current students joined the network for an inspiring evening celebrating innovation and creativity.
The panel discussion at London College of Fashion was between 2 former students who have grown fed up with the waste and mindlessness of fast fashion, and are changing the system from within.
The discussion between Kaela Katz and Giovanna Vieira focused on strategies for a sustainable future using a materials-first mindset.

Carboned Out workshop, November 2024
The network organised a workshop for guests to learn more about their carbon footprint through playing a board game. Carboned OUT was designed to make learning about climate change fun and interactive. Originally devised as part of a collaborative project for creators Nanthini Sampath and Ozge Sahin's MA at Camberwell College of Arts
The aim of the game is to help people understand their daily carbon footprint and the impact of their choices. Like how much carbon is emitted when you flush the toilet, make a card transaction, or even by owning a cat!
The evening gave guests a chance to network with other alumni who are passionate about sustainability within the creative industries.

Sustainable Horizons II: Going Forward, November 2023
The network held its second talk in the Sustainable Horizons series at Central Saint Martins.
We heard from Constance Jeffreys (MDes International Fashion Production Management, London College of Fashion, 2016), Hanna Whiteman (BA Textile Design, Central Saint Martins, 2023), and Lukas Kroulik (MA Fashion Photography, LCF, 2009). Their talks centered around eco-fashion, climate awareness in the arts, and the work the UAL Centre for Sustainable Fashion does regarding knowledge exchange with the community.

Sustainable Horizons I: Unleashing the Potential, June 2023
The Sustainability Alumni Network hosted its first Sustainable Horizons panel at Camberwell College of Arts.
Alumni Abbi Fletcher (UAL Climate Emergency Network) and Frieda Bischoff (Renée Materials), our speakers, talked about their projects and then embarked on an inspiring conversation with Katie Kubrak, the Network’s president.
We enjoyed seeing our community of alumni discussing topics such as sustainability in fashion and climate justice and making connections around drinks and snacks.

The Sustainability Alumni Network met for a Christmas-themed evening of macrame making.

Network event, November 2022
Over 100 alumni and guests came along to Central Saint Martins (CSM) to this event from the UAL Sustainability Alumni Network.
After the networking drinks, the guests heard from Veerkracht Nature-Positive Denim Platform - a reaction to the climate crisis, uniting 12 fashion designers, visual artists, researchers, sustainability lecturers, and denim developers across Europe. They then heard from graduates from the MA Material Futures course at CSM, who spoke about their projects and how they use design as a critical tool to combat, reflect upon, and unravel the complexity of the 21st Century.

Sustainability workshops, April 2022
The Sustainability Alumni Network met at the Thamesmead Studios for two workshops: a Sustainable tea-tasting workshop, and a solography pinhole camera workshop.
