At UAL, we understand the power of education, research and creative practice in change-making. When academics are forced to leave their homes due to conflict, persecution or crisis, their knowledge, perspectives and potential should not be lost.
Displaced academics bring critical insight, lived experience and global viewpoints that challenge and enrich our understanding of the world. Supporting them strengthens our university, our communities and the future of higher education.
We’re proud to play our part in offering a safe and supportive space for scholars at risk to continue their work, connect with peers and rebuild their futures.
Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA)
CARA is ready to help academics from any country in the world, on any continent, who are being forced to flee by the risk of imminent imprisonment, injury or death, and works with them to find them temporary refuge in universities and research institutions until they can one day return home to help re-build better, safer societies.
One of our most pivotal partnerships is our work with CARA. We have committed to supporting 1 at-risk academic over the next 2 years.
This funding is crucial in providing stability and opportunities for academics in precarious situations. We are currently working closely with CARA to operationalise this initiative at UAL.
