My name is Ramah Selwaeh. And this summer I joined the 3-week study abroad textile design course at UAL. Back home I study media arts and design technology in North Carolina at North Carolina State University.
What are your thoughts on the course?
The course has been great. We did lots of screen printing, designing and layout work. We got to experiment with lots of different techniques such as dyeing and heat transferring. It was lots of fun. You get to figure out different colour palettes that you would like to use in layouts and do templates and overlays until you figure out your final design.

Textile design can get really messy, but that is part of what makes it fun. I couldn't recommend it even more. It's a lot of experimentation, a lot of like trial and error. But once you really get into like the groove of it, it gets really fun. And while you make some amazing work, you are also making great connections and friends. You connect with your peers and it's just a great time experimenting with different colours and materials and fabrics. I had a blast.

Living in a new city, outside of the country was such an interesting experience, especially when you are studying in a city like London. Known for art and design. It was all so new to me. London is so beautiful. There is so much inspiration everywhere. And yeah, it's lots of new people, lots of new faces that I'm not used to, but it's also lots of inspiration and interest and creativity. It’s been really fun.
