Biography

Matthew Jarvis has a deep understanding of the potential and limitations of technology, with a strong belief that art is a medium for change. Working in collaboration with diverse and multidisciplinary teams he has provided an empathetic interface which bridges the arts with creative technologies.

Matthew has worked with renowned artists (Susan Collins, Thomson & Craighead, Julie Freeman, Martin Sastre, Annee Olofsson, Monika Oechsler, Martin John Callanan, Rose Butler) creative producers (Film & Video Umbrella, Videoclub, PIPSLab, Florida Digital Worlds Institute, S1, V2 Institute for Contemporary Art, Lovebytes, Art Sheffield, Ars Electronica) and independent curators (Hannah Redler, Jeanine Griffin, Caroline Jones) to realise a large variety of complex multi-platform and multi-system based projects in practical, accessible ways.

As a natural problem solver and critical thinker, he has provided expert advice and consultancy to galleries (Site Gallery, Tate, Roca, London Science Gallery), museums (V&A, Tate, Manchester Science museum, London Design Museum, Wearable technology expo), festivals (London Bankside festival, Brighton Light-night, Oxford Light-night, Hackney house (2012 Olympic exhibition), New Scientist Live, Sonic Acts), universities (Slade School of fine art, UCL, Queen Mary University of London, Goldsmiths, Royal College of Art, Sheffield Hallam University) and organisations (Telfonica, Open Data Institute, Illuminate Productions, SheffieldLive!, Bletchley Park) to build state of the art solutions to challenging briefs.

At the Creative Computing Institute, Matthew continues his practice researching technology in the arts, with the role of a Physical Computing Specialist.
