One of our most successful collaborations has been with lifestyle brand Flying Tiger Copenhagen. Second-year BA Fashion Buying & Merchandising students took part in a project that blurred the lines between classroom and real-world experience. Flying Tiger were keen for a new perspective to their product range and they challenged Fashion Business School students to design a brand-new dress-up collection for their younger consumers, supported by trend boards, visuals, financial and marketing plans.
After several presentations to the brand, one student group’s comfort-food-themed kids’ collection was chosen by the Flying Tiger team. The concept was so liked that it hit shelves globally in January 2023.
The winning students got a cash prize, were flown to Copenhagen for the professional ad campaign photoshoot and got VIP access to Flying Tiger’s HQ. They met with the brand’s executives, got involved in the marketing campaign, and even did interviews to help launch the collection on social media. “When brands trust students to bring fresh ideas, that’s where the real magic happens” shares Ginny Hutt, unit leader.
Flying Tiger directors were hands-on from start to finish - coming to London to brief and give feedback to students, helping them increase their confidence and understand what the world of buying and merchandising really looks like.
"This real-life retail buying simulation was an amazing experience for the students and will enhance their chances of breaking into the fashion industry post university” says Zoe Hinton, BA Buying and Merchandising Course Leader.
“It’s wonderful to see students from Fashion Business School being given the chance to see their designs in-store world-wide, demonstrating both their commercial and creative skills” shares Nicole Dunlop, Programme Director, Product & Innovation
